Bob's Bean Pod documents the beauty sleep of Bob that lasts for five hours but is condensed into an eleven minute trilogy just for the viewers of this short film. Bob laughs, Bob cries, Bob runs around, rings people, goes to the toilet and does everything. These days he's all grown up and all alone but he remembers a time when there was another guy named Bob too.
Shot on a Panasonic GS-120 over three separate days on three locations (Hattaway Avenue, wider Musick Point and Albert Park) in Auckland, Bob's Bean Pod also used made use of ADR and a little old keyboard. This film is the first to be shot primarily outdoors. Motif overkill is the general philosophy behind this film.
No one dies, but it is a rather sad film. A must see. Maybe.
Henry Chong - Bob
Henry knows Final Fantasy XI like the back of his hand and has been the target of satirical web comics. He plays Bob, and laughs a lot throughout the movie. The orange hat he wears contributes to the orange colour motif that is evident in all of Effo Films' productions. It also looks like he is fishing, but he doesnt' really fish in the movie. He does walk on water though.
Steve Whitford - Director of Photography
Steve knows a lot of about movies and has seen every movie you've seen. Well, if he hasn't seen that movie, then he most definitely has seen three more other ones that add up to more art-tainment value than the one that he hasn't seen [yet]. He can predict opening weekend box office earnings for every major film in the US to freakish accuracy. He also makes alien transformation movies and does some accounting when he needs to.
Ajita Goh - Composer
Ajita is in Singapore right now, although Auckland is almost as humid as all those other cities that are actually meant to be humid. Why does it rain? I have a friend who works as a weather man but he is really busy so I never asked him. Musici s a beautiful thing isn't it? Especially when you have it played on a retro keyboard that makes everything sound tin-tastically tinny.
Dennis Liu - Bob/Director/Writer/Editor
Dennis' name is italicised because it is the first word of this sentence. Although none of the other words which are first words in their sentences on this page are italicised, it was a necessary thing to do because I've run out of things to say about myself. I'm sure if time keeps moving forwards and not backwards like it was next week, I'd have plenty to talk about come the next short film. Why not drink some water?
