I've decided to write a tutorial on how to make a blooming rose square. You will need more than a beginner knowledge of crochet to do them although they really aren't all that difficult once you get started. I hope the directions coupled with step by step pictures will not be too confusing since this is my first attempt at anything like this. Here's a picture of the finished square:





Just for reference, the materials I used were Red Heart Super Saver® in Gold, Hunter Green and Claret, an aluminum crochet hook size H. The finished square is about 7½" square. Any worsted weight yarn should give you the same results, use any size hook to obtain the same size.

NOTE: You do not join rnds, you work in a spiral, one rnd leading into the next.

Ch 5, join with a sl st to first ch to form a ring.





Ch 1, sc in ring.





Ch 5, sc in ring, rep until you have 7 lps, ch 5-this is your 8th lp.





In each ch-5 lp around make sc, hdc, dc, hdc, and sc. You should have 8 petals.
